Worldwide leadership

Gemplus was named the worldwide leader of the smart card industry for a seventh consecutive year with a 27% market share, according to market analysts, Gartner Inc. Furthermore, Gemplus is also the worldwide leader of the industry in terms of revenues with €865 million generated in 2004.

According to the report released on 26 May 2005 by Gartner Inc., “Gemplus once again led total chip card shipments in 2004, achieving a market share of 27.1 percent.
Axalto remains in second place in the total chip card rankings, with market share of 20.4 percent.
China continued to play a significant role in the market during 2004, accounting for 15 percent of total chip card unit production."
