Gemplus brings safe access to networks for small and medium enterprises

Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises to benefit from Gemplus’s easy to use solution to enhance the security of their remote connections

LUXEMBURG – 11 April 2006 – Gemplus International S.A. (Euronext: LU0121706294 – GEM and NASDAQ: GEMP), a world leading provider of secure-card solutions, today announces the launch of GemEvidence™, a One Time Password (OTP) token-based solution for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), to improve network security for mobile workers.

The GemEvidence™ simple and easy-to-install authentication solution allows Small and Medium Entreprises to roll-out strong authentication tokens to remote and internal users in a cost effective way, while extending the security of smart cards to OTP tokens.

Building on Gemplus’s considerable experience in business-to-business and enterprise security, GemEvidence™ allows SMEs to protect the company network from outside attacks and identity theft, by replacing easily defrauded static passwords with a dynamic One Time Password.

“Existing secure remote access solutions are aimed mainly at large companies. Due to the direct and hidden costs of such schemes they are not practical for SMEs” explains Marc Chancerel, Enterprise Security Marketing VP, Gemplus. “GemEvidence™ makes it simple for SMEs to deploy, operate and use the same secure scheme, in a seamless and cost effective manner.”

GemEvidence™ is an off-the-shelf solution which includes the authentication server, tokens, support and maintenance. An exclusive and innovative installation and provisioning solution is also included allowing the IT staff to simply install, configure and deploy it on top of the Microsoft Active Directory and to provision easily and error-free OTP tokens to employees and partners. Benefits include a controlled Total Cost of Ownership, since there is no client software to maintain, no strict requirement of staff training and no integration costs to bear (only configuration and settings to be defined).

GemEvidence Solution will be sold and marketed through Distributors and Value Added Resellers (VARs) members of the Gemplus Expert Network (GEN) or interested to join the GEN program.

GemEvidence complements existing Gemplus strong authentication solutions for banks, governments and large corporations such as SafesITe™ and GemAuthenticate™.
