The Nigerian operator Vmobile chose Gemplus and their partner SharedPhone to provide an airtime reselling application that allows street resellers to give even the poorest people access to a telephone while safeguarding their business. A SharedPhone SIM allows a street operator to use a normal GSM handset as a public payphone.

Mobile Network Operators Recognize Gemplus as SIM Market Leader
In a recently conducted global survey of the GSM end user market, conducted
with 42 mobile network operators by the analyst firm Frost & Sullivan,
Gemplus outscored all other established smart card participants in the SIM card
market in five critical areas: price, local presence, lead time, image and
innovation. We ranked second in three other crucial categories including product
quality, product portfolio and service offering.

NTT DoCoMo
In October 2001, NTT DoCoMo launched the world first 3G commercial network, “FOMA
- Freedom for Multimedia Access”. At their side, and every step of the way,
was Gemplus, supplying the world first USIM cards for this momentous achievement.
Since this launch, Gemplus has worked with NTT DoCoMo on getting the most out of
the USIM for such services as international roaming, identity management for
access to 3rd party content and services, and mobile transactions using the PKI
functionality of the card. A major ramp-up in the number of subscribers to FOMA
is currently underway, with 4 million as of the last count. Gemplus has now
delivered significant volumes of USIM cards to NTT DoCoMo, who expects 10
million FOMA subscribers by the end of 2004.

Mobistar
"In Belgium, Mobistar undertook a renewal campaign targeting their
valuable, residential users. They sent a new SIM card with a Gemplus
MySIMcopier, enabling these users to transfer their personal data (phonebook and
SMS) in total security. They have also deployed MySIMeditor, a PC-based SIM
management tool for its corporate users and are already seeing the return on
investment through increased customer satisfaction. "Gemplus' SIM
management solutions help our customers better manage their subscription"
said Johan Sels, Head of Roaming, Mobistar Belgium.
Orange Communication S.A.
In 2004, Orange Communication S.A. ran a SIM card renewal program. Direct
mail was used to deploy a range of new mobile services. Gemplus assisted in the
management of the direct mailing campaign to final customers. Data-file
treatment, personalization and packaging of the card as well as sending the
cards via the chosen postal method were some of the tasks. "Orange
Communication S.A. was very satisfied with Gemplus' reliability and flexibility
and are confident in them as a partner for outsourced logistics" said David
Murphy, Director Product Management SIM cards, Orange CH.

China Mobile
China Mobile is using Gemplus solutions to differentiate its service
offering to its customers. The operator has segmented its customer base and is
targeting CMCC branded value added services (SIM cards and applications) to each
segment, such as M-Zone, which offers applications convenient for SMS use for
the youth market, GoTone, which provides dual subscription and large phonebook
capabilities for high-end corporate users, and the Prepaid
"ShenZhouXing" offer for prepaid users.

SK Telecom
In Korea, Gemplus deployed 3G cards for the launch of SK Telecom's 3G network,
which incorporated the VSDC (VISA Smart Debit Credit) application by VISA
International for the world's first mobile proximity payment service on a USIM
card, called MONETA. This enables users to pay for goods and services, such as
car parks and restaurants, by Infrared Messaging or Radio Frequency at physical
terminals and represents a real convergence between the financial and mobile
telecommunications industries.

Orange - WeBank Mobile
Orange, Banque OBC, an affiliate of ABN-AMRO, Avallone and Gemplus have launched
Webank Mobile, a mobile corporate banking solution targeting film production
companies, Banque OBC's main market. Orange Trust, developed by Orange and
Gemplus, enables customers to sign any transaction remotely and securely via
their mobile phone, by typing in a personal "signature code". The
confidential information needed for this is stored in the Gemplus SIM/WIM card,
while Orange operates the transaction gateway. This has been tailored and
deployed to the film industry at the initiative of Banque OBC, via their systems
Integrator, Avallone, a leading computer company for the transaction security
market.

Singtel
Gemplus powers Singapore's first SIM-based tourist information service -
CitySIM. This is a prepaid mobile phone service, offering location-based
services about the island, for example, where to find the closest vegetarian.
Once in the handset, it offers real-time location-based information,
automatically linked to their location, via their mobile phone and prepaid SIM
card. Information includes restaurant locations, banks, nightlife, and also a
chat services between other CitySIM users. The card can be bought on arrival in
Singapore and in all hello! Shops and Singtel's authorised dealers for S$20.
CitySIM is powered by Gemplus' GemConnect On-line technology and operated by
Landmat International.

Paynet, Czech Republic
Paynet was the first to deploy Gem-eCash, a prepaid solution for online
purchasing, developed in conjunction with Valista. This enables users who want
to pay for online contents and services to do so in anonymity and without
disclosing banking details over the Internet.

OI, Brazil
OI, the cellular division of Telemar, was the first operator in Brazil to launch
a GSM network and was keen to provide customers with the mobile services based
on the SIM. Gemplus deployed the latest SIM cards, a dynamic SIM Toolkit
architecture and Over The Air platform enabling Oi to deploy value added
services to their heart's content. This way, Oi gained 3.5% of the wireless
market within only 3 months of the launch (Source: Diamond Cluster). They were
also able to maintain a reputation for innovation in a highly competitive
market.

Aljawal, Mobile Business Unit of Saudi Arabia Telecom
Gemplus carried out the largest ever over the air download campaign on behalf of
Aljawal, treating over 6.3 million SIM cards. ALJAWAL selected Gemplus to
deliver an Over The Air platform and Dynamic SIM Toolkit solution in order to
ease subscriber access to their new SMS-based value added services,
"Abwab". For speed of deployment, STC deployed SIM cards to the field,
embedded with a S@T dynamic SIM Toolkit engine, which
Gemplus then "post-personalized" with 6Kb of data per card, over the
air.

MTS - Mobile Telesystems
Russia's leading mobile network operator, launched MTS-Info, a selection of
user-friendly mobile services for the mass population that can be updated
remotely at any point in the future. Six months after the launch of the service,
more than 700 000 users were able to access MTS-info, which accounted for 5% of
all billed SMS traffic in the MTS network.
This was possible thanks to Gemplus' Dynamic SIM toolkit approach. MTS-Info
is based on GemConnect Online, a powerful mix of smart card and server
applications. The dynamic STK technology enables the rapid download of
applications through the established SMS channel.

T-Mobile Netherlands
Having deployed Gemplus technology to deploy SMS information on demand services
to their subscribers, T-Mobile Netherlands saw a five-fold increase in demand
for their SMS ring tone downloads. The main aim of T-Mobile Netherlands was to
deploy easy-to-use and flexible end-user services. The interactive services
developed with Gemplus offer a considerably better customer experience and open
new service areas for the SIM card.
